St George's, Tombland

I was visiting Norwich Cathedral and popped over the road to visit the gorgeous St George's Tombland directly across the road. Like most churches she's evolved over the years, and most of the current church was built in the 1400's and 1500's - but some of the oldest parts were built in the 1200's.

The current tower of St George's Tombland dates from the 1400's - but in 1272, when the people of Norwich rioted and attacked the Cathedral, flaming arrows were fired at the Cathedral from the top of the old tower and burned down the Cathedrals belfry.

Inside the tower are a number of storerooms, and six bells, capable of chiming the hour.

Back in the nave, you'll spot some fairly unique windows from 1867. Their design is supposed to reflect the local weaving industry. The windows look like close up views of cloth, with threads of different colours passing under and over each other in the glass.
