Speaking / Performing

A dynamic and engaging speaker and performer, Jay makes any topic come alive, be it a simple poetry performance, a Q&A or panel discussion, or a theological or literary lecture.

Having given talks on topics ranging from the relationship between trans and otherwise marginalised bodies and Cathedrals, to Queer rights and representation in literature, Jay loves to tailor a talk to the needs of the community or organisation he is speaking to. He has special knowledge and interest in giving talks on: ecclesiastical architecture, queer rights and theology (especially trans theology), poetry, sainthood, pilgrimage, and the relationship between faith and physical space.

Teaching / Lecturing / workshops

Jay is a seasoned lecturer and workshop leader, and can provide poetry workshops and school and university visits for ages 4 and up, as well as workshops for adults in educational, recreational, or even conference settings.

From writing a big narrative poem as a group, and learning that there’s fun in poetry (as well as practicing rhyme), to detailed workshops on poetic technique for the more experienced adults in this world, Jay is more than happy to tailor his offerings to fulfil your needs.

Preaching

Having preached in venues ranging from some of the UK’s grandest cathedrals, to the smallest parish churches and chapels in both the UK and internationally, Jay is a practiced guest preacher, as well as regular contributor to the BBC Daily Service. He is more than willing to speak at various kinds of service, and in various formats, including at theological conferences and internationally.

Though his workload as a poet and Churchwarden means he isn’t always available and able to say yes to the many offers to preach that he receives, please do email to ask anyway!

Audio / Video presenting

A practiced presenter, Jay is the current voice of a Cathedral audio guide, as well as having been the face and voice of a national advertising campaign (Television, radio, and targeted video and audio digital ads).

Jay is a popular podcast guest as well as being a regular contributor to BBC radio broadcasts and has an in-home audio recording studio. He is also willing and able to travel to professional studios or for on-site recording.

Writing Commissions / Residencies

Jay will occasionally take on writing commissions or residencies that interest him. In order for him to accept the work it must be something he feels he can really commit to. Previously he has written commissioned work for the BBC, St Paul’s Cathedral, the 20-21 Arts Centre, Ironbridge Gorge Museums Trust, and others, as well as having completed a residency at St Giles-in-the-fields church. Please do get in touch if you have something you think he’d be interested in.

Sensitivity Reads

Jay is available to perform sensitivity reads, to assess the sensitivity and accuracy of the portrayal of transgender characters in a piece of media, and has confidentially performed this service for multiple publishers. This consultation service results in in-depth feedback in whichever form best suits your needs - normally either a summary, a phone or video call, annotations, or a combination of the three, and is also available for other media types such as TV or film.

As this is such a specific service it’s recommended you get in touch with Jay via his email to discuss your requirements more fully.
