Generally classes and workshops last between half an hour and an hour and a half, though Jay is flexible with times, and often runs an entire day of educational activities.
Workshops can be tailored to specific styles of poetry, or Jay can give a more general overview of the art of writing poetry in order to accommodate everyone's preferred writing style. As a performance poet, Jay also offers lessons in how to perform work, and workshops can also build up to a Slam-style performance of the students work.
Jay has a current enhanced DBS certificate and has experience running workshops in school and library settings, alongside his experience teaching adults.
To enhance his educational offerings Jay has taken part in many courses for authors in education. One of these was an Author Development Course at the Tower of London, run by Pop-Up Projects in partnership with Historic Royal Palaces, with a focus on site specific educational work, and the combination of history and literature in education. Another was a course run by the National Literacy Trust, focused on giving authors education-specific skills, with a focus on Primary education.
